You might think you know the candidates, but campaign consultants decide much of what voters read, see and hear about the people who run for elective office. We talk with John Shallman and Bill Carrick, who ran the Greuel and Garcetti mayoral campaigns—two veterans of many political wars. What were the dynamics of defeat and victory? What were the might-have-beens, and what's next for the city? Also, Yosemite National Park has spent millions of dollars to avoid a repeat of last summer's disaster: three deaths and six illnesses from the hantavirus contracted from infected deer mice. We hear what's been done to clean up Curry Village and other areas.

On our rebroadcast of today's To the Point, the Boy Scouts of America will now allow openly gay members — but only until they reach the age of 18. We hear how last week's compromise reflects conflicts between religious groups, the values of corporate America and the traditions of Scouting itself.
