Is it Time for a Gang Injunction in Echo Park?

Crime is down in Echo Park, but some neighbors support tough police tactics, while others warn about racial profiling in the interests of gentrification.

LA City Attorney Mike Feuer inherited a proposed injunction against six rival gangs in Echo Park—a hot residential market with a lively nightlife near downtown LA. Crime is down, but some neighbors support tough police tactics, while others warn about racial profiling in the interests of gentrification. With a meeting scheduled tonight and a court hearing later this month, we’ll hear different perspectives. And in today's Reporter's Notebook, Silicon Valley is pushing hard for immigration reform—with the goal of increasing the number of H-1 Visas for college graduates they claim they need from overseas. But a recent TV spot—reportedly paid for by group linked to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg—is aimed at immigration of a different kind.
