Michael Silverblatt’s current Bookworm Book Club selection is LaRose, by National Book Award-winning author, Louise Erdrich. The story begins as an Ojibwe man accidentally shoots his neighbor’s young son while out stalking an elk. After prayer in the sweat lodge and requests for ancestral guidance, the hunter and his family decide to give their son, LaRose, to be raised by their grieving neighbors. Erdrich’s novel takes the reader through previous histories of love, retribution and grief, in order to dramatically enact the traditions of healing. Michael adds LaRose “is an unforgettable book… so passionate and memorable — I am sure you will love it.” Members of KCRW’s Bookworm Book Club enjoy FIVE titles a year, with recent selections by such esteemed and provocative authors as Atticus Lish, Claudia Rankine, Joy Williams and more…
