Save Our Summer: Support Connection and Inspiration

Written by

Hi there,

Ever since I heard former Obama speechwriter and podcaster Jon Lovett call KCRW his “favorite NPR station that also plays house music," I haven't gotten it out of my head.

I was lucky enough to join this information-sharing, house-music-playing powerhouse nine years ago and this is what I know: KCRW is a human manifestation of Los Angeles — indelibly connected to this remarkable city that creates and shapes culture around the world.

And yes, I used the word human to describe this member-supported, non-profit media organization. Why?

At KCRW, we feel the responsibility of our roles in our bones. We’re a group whose DNA compels us to work daily with the goal of opening minds, inspiring curiosity, pushing culture forward, and telling the stories that must be heard.

You hear that connection, that inspiration, on 89.9 FM even at the oddest hour: a set curated by one of our local DJs, a powerful story about the changing landscape of LA, a butter-lover’s guide to the 17 croissants you need to eat in LA, or an interview with musician Rufus Wainwright.

You know you'll be surprised when you tell your smart speaker to play KCRW. You’ll feel the thrill of it when you’re one of the thousands of people at our annual Pie Contest every April, or the tens of thousands of Angelenos dancing at our free public Summer Nights Series, which kicks off later this month.

And that's why it's critical to support this living, breathing, human-inspiring LA juggernaut that is your KCRW.

Join me, and thousands of others, in being connected by this one special place. Make your contribution now

With deepest gratitude,

Jill Smayo
Proud KCRW Member and Chief Operating Officer
