Happy IPA Day! It really is a day that celebrates IPA beer. And if you’re an imbiber, you probably know what that is. IPA stands for India Pale Ale, a heavily-hoppy type of craft beer that’s become very popular among the hip and happening crowd.

We called up a beer geek for advice about the barley-infused genre of brew. Ashley Routson writes the beer blog Drink with the Wench and started IPA Day a couple of years back; she joined KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis from Berkeley, California.

A few of Ashley’s favorite Southern California IPAs:

  • Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

  • Port Brewing Mongo IPA

  • Stone Ruination IPA
