LA City Councilman Bernard Parks will make his soap opera debut on Friday on CBS daytime drama “The Bold and The Beautiful.” The councilman will be on the show to promote animal adoption in a scene with series regulars Scott Clifton and Kim Matula.

This continues the long tradition of Los Angeles elected officials appearing on television playing themselves, including former mayors Sam Yorty, Tom Bradley, Richard Riordan and Antonio Villaraigosa. And Eric Garcetti has been on “All My Children.”

Parks considers himself more “beautiful” than “bold” – in fact, back when he was LAPD Chief, People Magazine named him one of the 50 most beautiful people of 1998 (Leonardo DiCaprio was number one).

Parks spoke with KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis about his TV appearance.
