Perpetual drug addiction, where the addict is in and out of rehab, trying to kick a habit that’s all-too-often nearly impossible to kick.

But is there a connection between creativity and addiction? Do artists, actors, painters, and singers believe drugs help them attain a more creative state?

David J. Linden is a neurobiologist at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and author of “The Compass of Pleasure,” and spoke with KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis.
