In the desert regions of Southern California, date farmers are busily harvesting their fruit. You can find fresh dates from Davall Date Gardens, a farm in the Coachella Valley, right now at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market.

This week, our market host Katie Hershfelt dropped by the booth to taste the new harvest and talk to sales manager Travis Kennedy about how dates are grown.

Sautéed green beans with  Travis’ date stir fry sauce:

  • Green Beans
  • Date paste (about 2 dates, mashed up)
  • Soy sauce
  • Green onions
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Pepper flakes

Mix everything up, except the green beans. Sauté those green beans, and add the sauce to the pan just for the last minute. You can also use this sauce as a marinade for tofu, fish, other veggies – you name it!
