Frank Gehry‘s office has confirmed to DnA that he will take part in the exhibit.
The opening is on June 16th.
The Members Opening is on June 22nd (featuring KCRW DJs Chris Douridas and Anthony Valadez).
There’ll be a media viewing and discussion on Tuesday June 18, with speakers including Eric Owen Moss, Thom Mayne, Neil Denari, Tom Wiscombe and Georgina Hujlich.
There will also be a series of talks that I’ll be moderating for MOCA about the issues raised by the exhibit and its name, “A New Sculpturalism.” More information on the panelists and location to come. Listen to this DnA, for a full picture of the debate surrounding the curatorial direction.
Expect to see a lively graphic response to the debate over the name, at the exhibit.
Expect to see Frank Gehry‘s entry for the limited competition for the National Art Museum of China. Gehry’s design proposed a facade made of a translucent stone developed by the architect, shown, with the “qualities of jade.”
About the design Gehry says, “throughout our projects we have been looking for a way to express movement with inert materials like the Greeks did with the horses and soldiers in the Elgin marbles and like the Indian Shiva dancing figures. Our effort to express subtle movement in the façade is what leads us to studying glass.”
