Silverlake-based Materials and Applications (M&A) is going offsite this weekend for a collaborative design and build project at the Barnsdall Art Park in Los Feliz/East Hollywood — and you are invited to bring your ideas and join in.
Here’s the deets from M&A (whose most recent installation, Back to Basics, is shown in the image, left):
We will spend both Saturday and Sunday (01/10 & 01/11) developing an installation for the outdoor entryway to the gallery. The goal for our first meeting will be to brainstorm possible designs for the structure and build a prototype.
So far our starting parameter is the use of bamboo as a tensioning element. What is left to be decided is the design and medium to connect the bamboo. The overall goal is to design modular units to ultimately grow the structure.
The Barnsdall opening reception is January 31st, and we need to have a presentable, if not completed, installation in place by the end of the day on January 23rd. The next two weekends promise to be action packed. Who are we looking for…?
1. Those who see toothpicks and think about more than dental hygiene
2. Dreamers who like to get their hands dirty
3. Everybody who couldn’t sit still in class
In addition to all the building fun, this weekend will be a great way to get to know the park with great views and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock house. We hope to see you there.
Please RSVP if you plan to come — we will be on site from 12pm until 5pm each day. Everyone is welcome, even if you can only make it for part of the day.
This is part of the show : Actions, Conversations, and Intersections at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027; curated by Edith Abeyta and Michael Lewis Miller
