If you want to know what’s going on right now in design culture in LA, stop reading this blog and go to this link: www.designweekla.org.

60 arts organizations have come together to promote exhibits, panels, tours and talks, all happening October 9-17. The range is wide and deep, for example: free tix to the California Design Biennial at the PMCA, Forty Years of Sesame Street Illustration at the Central Library, a SCI-Arc retrospective of Coy Howard’s furniture and architecture. The only problem is how to fit it all in.

Here is how the Design Week Consortium describes Design Week / LA: “an annual celebration of design that inspires and brings together Los Angeles’ abundant and vital design communities by promoting a wider awareness of design through initiatives and programming that highlight the richness and diversity of design activities happening throughout the communities of Los Angeles.  Featuring more than 50 programs by various Los Angeles design organizations and institutions, including design workshops, exhibitions, historic and modern architectural home tours, urban hikes, lectures and more, Design Week / LA seeks to enhance design advocacy within both the profession and the broader community.  The Design Week / LA presenting partners are the Los Angeles chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); AIGA, the professional association for design; the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA); the Interaction Design Association (IXDA); and The Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD). Supporting partners include the A+D Museum; Cal Arts; the Center for the Study of Political Graphics (CSPQ); de LAB; Kernspiracy; MAK Center; Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA); SAGA; and 4 Viscom at CSUN.”
