Fire and Architecture, Ray Kappe, Nice Modernists
Fires ravaged thousands of buildings last week. Could different planning or architecture have prevented such destruction? Frances Anderton speaks with architect Barton Myers and his wife Vicky, whose canyon house was designed to creatively integrate code requirements following past fires in Malibu, Laguna Beach and Santa Barbara. Also, conversations about Dwell Magazine's 'Nice Modernists' and the importance of architect Ray Kappe.
Barton Myers is a UCLA Professor and architect of numerous buildings, including a fire-resistant house in Santa Barbara, and performing arts centers in New Jersey and Cerritos.
Joe Addo is one of the founders of A + D Museum, whose inaugural show in its new space in Santa Monica focuses on the works of architect Ray Kappe. The museum's new home is at 1558 10th Street in Santa Monica. The Kappe show opens November 13.
Alison Arieff of Dwell, the three-year old San Francisco-based magazine, will be in LA at MOCA, celebrating some designers they've named "Nice Modernists."
