A long anticipated dialog between two of LA’s most prestigious Architectural alma maters, UCLA and Sci Arch, will take place on Monday, April 12 at 6:30pm at the UCLA Auditorium in The Broad Art Center. The dynamic conversation between Jason Payne and Hernan Diaz Alonso is going to touch on current news and trends in the domain of design and architecture.
Before joining UCLA Architecture and Urban Design department in 2002 Jason Payne used to teach at Pratt Institute, Rice University, Bennington College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Previous collaborations of Payne’s include working with Reiser + Umemoto Architects and Daniel Libeskind Studio and co-partnering the award winning office Gnuform, well known for the NGTV Bar (which also won the 2006 AIA Design Award) and the 2006 PS1/MOMA Young Architects’ program entry “Purple Haze.” Jason Payne’s Los Angeles based office Hirsuta is a creative engine producing infinite interactive materialism.
Payne’s individualism will be combined with the worldly views of Hernan Diaz Alonso who is the founder of award-winning Architectural and multimedia design company Xefirotarch. In addition to running his esteemed locally based creative firm, Hernan Diaz Alonso teaches at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, as well as at Columbia University and internationally at the Universitat fur Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. His work has been exhibited throughout the US and worldwide with highlights being his solo shows at the San Francisco MOMA in 2006, MAK Center in Vienna in 2007, and the Pompidou Center in Paris in 2008-2009. In 2005, he was the winner of the PS1 MOMA, New York, Young Architects Program competition.
