Anaheim Goes ARTIC

Orange County's new transit center with big goals.

This past Saturday, the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) made its grand debut to the public. Funded with nearly $200 million in federal and local grants, the already iconic structure will host Amtrak, Metrolink, and OCTA lines, along with bus charters and even restaurants -- OC's own Union Station. But ARTIC's planners are justifying the structure by pinning their hopes on two controversial boondoggles: California's high-speed rail system, and a proposed Anaheim streetcar that would connect the station to the Anaheim Resort area. Is ARTIC prescient planning--or a station to nowhere?
