A political war between supporters and opponents of a proposed Anaheim streetcar system came to a head today during the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors meeting. A subcommittee that includes Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait planned to release a preliminary report urging the OCTA to kill support for the project, which would connect Anaheim's ARTIC station to near Disneyland. The committee says such a project would be a waste of money, and urged instead a rapid bus system. But the report was pulled from the agenda at the last minute with no explanation. The main person lobbying for the project is former Anaheim mayor Curt Pringle, who was instrumental in bringing the ARTIC station in Anaheim and whose firm is pushing OCTA board members to nevertheless approve the streetcar project despite the sub-committee's recommendation. Who will win?
