How the OC Register Beat LA Times in the OC Newspaper Wars

Hosted by

Today, a bankruptcy court judge approved a request from Freedom Communications, parent company of the Orange County Register, to have its assets sold to Digital First Media. This came a week after Tribune Media put in the highest bid in an auction for Freedom at $54 million, shortly followed by the feds filing an anti-trust lawsuit to block the move. The sale to Digital First represents one final victory for the Register against the Los Angeles Times in a fight for Orange County readers that goes back nearly 40 years. But will the sale to Digital First ensure the Register's future, or should they have fought to get bought by Tribune, instead?
