Last week, the Orange County District Attorney's Office filed a declaration in which they claimed they had proof that secret sheriff's deputies records contradicted what deputies had previously testified under oath. The filings were made as part of the ongoing, so-called snitch scandal, in which public defender Scott Sanders has shown how the OCDA and Orange County Sheriff's Department used jailhouse informants to illegally solicit information from other inmates. The fall-out has led to the overturning of convictions, the removal of the DA's office from the penalty phase of a mass murder, and calls for the district attorney to step down. The OCDA's declaration comes as OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens claims that her department has done nothing wrong — but will a fight between Orange County's two top law enforcement officials lead to further controversy?
