For over a year, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station has been shut down as Southern California Edison officials try to fix faulty facilities that led to a radiation leak last January. The shutdown has created an opportunity for opponents to ask for its permanent shutdown, but one that would deprive Southern California of a big contributor to its energy source.
