The End of the Orange County Dream?

Hosted by

Orange County has always prided itself as a land of paradise, a place where the middle-class dream is within anyone's reach if only they try hard enough. But the annual OC Community Indicators report issued by a coaliton of local advocacy groups paints a stark picture of the Orange County dream. It found that nearly 25 percent of the county lives in poverty as defined by California, that 2/3 of local jobs don't earn workers enough to comfortably afford a one-bedroom apartment, and that young people are leaving while the percentage of older people is expected to grow. Local business and education leaders are already sounding the alarm, but is this development a natural result of the Orange County way?
