The Garbage Dump Next to a Mexican School

Hosted by

The war of words continues in the fight between trustees of the Ocean View School District (OVSD) in Huntington Beach and Rainbow Disposal. In 2014, OVSD sued the trash company, alleging smells from its facility were making students and teachers at Oak View Elementary, just across the street from Rainbow, sick. Trustee John Briscoe alleges that OC's Health Care Agency, in charge of monitoring complaints, has been lax in going after Rainbow, which dominates Huntington Beach politics and has contributed thousands of dollars to various OC supervisors over the years. Rainbow, for its part, calls allegations by the schools mostly Latino parents that it's engaged in environmental racism to be unfair, and is doing everything possible to mitigate the smell. What's going to happen next?
