Massacre at Cuska

On Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, from 2 to 3 pm, KCRW (89.9 FM) presents a groundbreaking radio documentary from American RadioWorks, -Massacre at Cuska-. This one-hour special, produced and reported by Michael Montgomery and Stephen Smith, provides a chilling, intimate look at the Kosovo killings and deportations that outraged world opinion and prompted NATO-s air war against Yugoslavia. An online chat about -Massacre at Cuska- is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24 at 11 am (PT) www.americanradioworks.org, featuring Fred Abrahams, researcher for and author of the Human Rights Watch Report on the Attack at Cuska. An opportunity to post questions and comments to a billboard for Abrahams and the reporters will begin February 24, and will stay up for one week. The documentary explores a May 14, 1999 massacre of 72 civilians in and around the Kosovo village of Cuska. For this co-production by Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio, American RadioWorks- correspondents Montgomery and Smith were the first journalists to track down and speak with men who participated in the massacre. These potential war criminals explain in vivid detail the planning behind the massacre and discuss their own motivations in killing civilians. -Massacre at Cuska- is part of a multi-year project tracking the pursuit of justice in Kosovo and the Balkans.
