From La Burbuja: Devi

Devi Ramirez, 26, doesn’t quite remember the first time she came to the States. She was two years old when her father carried her over to come here. Her family then settled in MacArthur Park. But when she was seven, her grandmother got sick. She and her mother left to visit her ill grandmother in Acapulco, Mexico. They had to cross the border, again  — this time her father wasn’t there to carry her. “And then the *migra came,” Devi said. “So everybody scattered, even my mom — she took off and they left me there.”
