Evelyn Herdez was born in Los Angeles but her father wanted her to learn Spanish. When he bought at house in El Salvador, he thought it would be the perfect opportunity for her to learn the language in his native country. So when she turned four years old, they moved to El Salvador. Evelyn spent five years there. She learned the language and experience the culture. But when she came back to the States, settling in at school wasn't easy. "I would always be mad," she says, "go to school and I would try to speak Spanish and nobody would really speak to me in Spanish."
