When a studio executive “suggested” that Greta Gerwig change the ending she had devised for her version of "Little Women," Gerwig channeled Jo March, the fiery heroine of the Louisa May Alcott classic. Gerwig tells us about re-discovering the 19th century novel in her 30s and finding it surprisingly modern. And she explains why she insisted on writing and directing this film version even though when she pitched it (before she made "Lady Bird"), she wasn’t exactly qualified.
