The Spin-off

Married Showrunners Tara Butters & Marc Guggenheim

Married couple Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters have separately written, produced and overseen multiple TV shows. Guggenheim produces Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow on The CW, and Butters was one of the showrunners of Marvel's Agent Carter on ABC. She was also the executive producer of the ABC show Resurrection and Reaper on The CW. They tell us how they met, talk about the experience of working for rival superhero companies, and admit how, in the end, it all comes down to time management.

Television writer-producers Tara Butters and Marc Guggenheim have been married almost 12 years. When they first met, they were both writers, and while they still continue to write, at this point, they're also each produced and overseen a couple of shows.

In this episode of The Spin-off, they tell Michael Schneider about their respective careers, how they once ended up working for rival superhero universes (Butters produced Marvel's Agent Carter and Guggenheim is a co-showrunner for DC's Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow), and what they've learned from parenting that has helped them in their jobs.

Arrow returned to the CW for its fifth season on October 5 and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, is back for a second season on October 13.

Shortly after we taped, Butters and her producing partner, Michele Fazekas, announced some new projects through their deal at ABC Studios, including a drama based on some of the Disney theme parks mythology.
