Moneyball is up for numerous awards but there was a time when its fate was in question. Director Bennett Miller and two of the film's producers -- Rachael Horovitz and Michael De Luca -- tell the dramatic tale of the project's troubled journey. Based on the bestselling book by Michael Lewis, Moneyball was a tough story to adapt into a movie. It was full of statistics and lacked a conventional happy Hollywood ending. Still, Sony took a chance. Brad Pitt got on board to star and produce with Stephen Soderbergh directing. Then a mere 72 hours away from shooting the studio pulled the plug.
