In three different productions (first at Donmar Warehouse in London, then on Broadway, and now at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles), actor Alfred Molina has play artist Mark Rothko in the play RED, a two person show about Rothko and his young assistant, Ken, during Rothko's painting of the Seagram Murals. Dealing with the art world is not a first for Molina, who was nominated for a Tony award for his role in the play 'Art' and also played Mexican painter Diego Rivera in the movie Frida. In this revealing interview, the prolific Molina talks about playing characters who are ill at ease, growing up the child of two immigrant parents, and how listening to bebop helped him better understand the mission of art.

Eight paintings by Mark Rothko from MOCA's permanent collection are on display during the run of RED. For information on free and discounted admission, visit http://www.moca.org/audio/blog/?p=3545
