Can’t Get It Outta My System

The sticky song of the week award goes to Washed Out for creating a fantastically dreamy remix of My Morning Jacket’s “Outta My System” that has been in my head ALL week.

The chorus sounds like it’s floating through space and he replaced most of the lyrics with trippy spoken-word interludes about the capabilities of the mind and beyond. My favorite: “We all believe in something. Even if we believe there is nothing to believe.”

I liked it so much, I actually emailed Ernest Greene (the musician behind Washed Out) to find out where the spoken word was from, but I’m yet to hear back.

The original version on “Circuital” is one of the powerhouse rock songs on the album but, with lyrics about smoking drugs, it makes total sense reconfigured as a mellow, chillwave-y jam.

The song is part of the “Remixez Y Friendz” EP, which came out digitally earlier this week. Tracklist below.

The band is in LA for three dates at the Wiltern on September 11, 12 and 13.
