As KCRW Music DirectorJason Bentley said, “it’s good to know that even the most successful artists don’t forget the radio station that played them at the beginning.”

Chris Martin of Coldplay stopped by MBE to show us some support during our Spring fundraiser, chatting with Jason and DJ Anne Litt on the air.

He even stopped into the volunteer room to say hello to all the fine folks taking your phone pledges.

As you may know, KCRW was one of the first US radio stations to play the band. In fact, I showed Chris a photo of him taken back in 2000 that is right at the entrance to Master Control. I literally see his face everyday!

Coldplay’s big year — particularly their

Super Bowl halftime appearance. Anne asked how the collaboration with

LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel came about. Chris described himself as a Dudamel “groupie” and said they really wanted the performance to be a celebration.

Chris is featured in a photo book KCRW put together to commemorate our move to a new building later this year, entitled “From the Basement“. He signed a few copies and joked about how young he looks in the photos.

Check out more about the book and join KCRW here.
