Now, some people have accused me of booking Sprinkles founder CandaceNelson just because I love her cupcakes, but there are others reasons as well – she’s an incredibly successful female entrepreneur AND I’m obsessed with food shows (she’s a judge on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars).

Regardless, she was an excellent Guest DJ – telling great stories behind each of her song picks. She took us back to the ‘80’s to revisit the soundtrack to her early years in the kitchen (she lived in Southeast Asia, where the only place to get American treats was to make them herself) and her personal anthem, Bill Wither’s “Lovely Day.” As she says, “my business is cupcakes, which is like dealing in sunshine.”

Check out her song picks below and hear the full session online.

Candace Nelson’s Guest DJ Track List

1. Mary J. Blige – Family Affair

2. Lionel Richie – Dancing on the Ceiling

3. Cyndi Lauper – All through the Night

4. Rooney – When did your heart go missing?

5. Bill Withers – Lovely Day

RR

Editor’s Note: I first fell in love with “Lovely Day” when I heard KCRW DJ Anne Litt play it at a party and it’s now one of my favorite songs. Thank you Anne!
