KCRW is a magical place for many reasons but one of them is that you NEVER know who might be down the hall, because we produce so many different types of shows here.

One morning, Good Food producer Gillian Ferguson pulled me aside to say NYC chef Eddie Huangwas in the studio early and host Evan Kleiman was running late – did I want to tape an episode of the Guest DJ Project with just minutes notice? The answer was an immediate yes.

Aside from his successful restaurant BaoHaus in New York’s East Village, he also hosts a show on Vice and ABC just picked up a series based on his memoir “Fresh Off the Boat”.

What I love about his Guest DJ set, however, is that we finally get to see his softer side.

He’s kind of a wild man – with an incredible laugh – but then we learn about his love for Nina Simone and, like an onion, another layer is revealed.

The whole set is interesting and hilarious so I highly recommend giving it a listen!
