When asked about bands to look out for on the LA scene, this guy inevitably makes my list — and that’s based on the 4 songs I’ve heard. I still haven’t seen his live show, which I hear is incredible, and you’ll have a chance tonight when he plays Bardot’s “School Night.” If you’re looking for something free to do, check out the details and RSVP here.

The evening includes DJ sets from KCRW’s own Chris Douridas, Valida and our NYC correspondent (and former DJ) Jason Eldredge.

Hanni is the son of Palestinian and Filipino immigrants (and the first American in his family). He grew up in San Francisco obsessed with classic Americana and pop culture of the 1950s and 60s. You can hear it clearly in his sound, a blend of blues, soul, garage rock & doo whop. Or, as the man himself likes to call it, “knife fight music.”

Check out our previous Local Band We Love post on Hanni and track him down before he blows up!
