Jennifer O’Connor – “Start Right Here” Video Premiere

New York-based artist Jennifer O’Connor has sneakily worked her way into being one of the premiere singer/songwriters of recent memory. A veteran of a half-dozen albums, both on her own label, Kiam, as well as on the acclaimed indie Matador Records, she has become a go-to songwriter for TV shows like Sons of Anarchy andOrange Is the New Black and has had numerous songs licensed for other shows and advertisements. She even owns a record shop in her home base of Nyack, NY! But her records still stand as her crowning achievement, and we are happy to premiere the video for the debut single from her latest album, Surface Noise– “Start Right Here”:

With all of her music, O’Connor manages to make pop magic out of simplicity, as “Start Right Here,” both the song and this video, with its heartwarming domestic situation we can all empathize with, amply demonstrate. Alongside the rhythm section of her longtime drummer Jon Langmead and Yo La Tengo’s James McNew on bass, she massages the catchiest melody you’re likely to hear all day out of the basic voice/guitar/bass/drums set-up we’ve all heard a million times. But that’s the O’Connor magic, and long may it wave!
