KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole will be spinning a set of African music at the Geffen Playhouse this Wednesday as part of the opening night festivities for the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Ruined.”

Sole is a master of all kinds of world music, which he plays regularly on his weekly KCRW show, among many other things, and in his many residencies around town, including my personal favorite – Afro-Funké on Thursdays at Zanzibar.

The play takes place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and features two live musicians onstage (a guitarist and a drummer) playing African music throughout the play.  The music is key in creating a sense of place and those musicians might even join Jeremy as part of his after-show set.

Ruined” will be running from September 15 to October 17. Find out more about the play here.

Also sample some music from the Congo with ” Anduku lutshuma” by Roitelet, taken from a 20-song Congo Classics collection called “Roots of OK Jazz.”
