Sometimes I can sense the momentum of a band that is on the verge of breaking out — without hype, based solely on their music.
One of those bands is Hiatus Kaiyote out of Melbourne, who I’ve blogged about before and even mentioned in my “Best of” lists. Now it’s nice to see Erykah Badu tweet abut them, ?uestlove of The Roots co/sign them and even seeing them playing with Miguel Atwood Ferguson and Taylor Mcferrin at Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder show in Brooklyn.
Somehow, someway, this band that got lots of love from KCRW is uniting all these different musical scenes and it should come as no surprise since the tracks from “Tawk Tomahawk” are bit all over the place in such a beautiful way.
I had the honor of remixing “Mobius Streak”, one of my favorite tracks from the album, as part of the “Tawk Take Out” remix compilation, alongside other contributors like producers Mark de Clive Lowe and Shafiq Husayn.
Check out my remix, which features Miles Bonny, below.
Even better, I had the chance to hang out with them and get to know lead vocalist Nai Palm on a whole new humanly level. Sometimes I feel like that kid in
“Almost Famous”, experiencing unbelievable things, running around with a camera snapping shots, and shooting footage for my blog.
