Aloe Blacc has managed to do just that. Red Hot + Rio 2 features David Byrne, John Legend, Beck, Beirut, Mia Doi Todd and others paying tribute to the late 60’s Brazilian Tropicália movement and proceeds will benefit HIV/AIDS related charities.

Aloe is featured on several tracks but Jason Bentleyimmediately gravitated to Nascimento (Rebirth) – Scene 2, feeling it captured something quite personal, the relationship between two people involved on an intimate level. It features Brazilian singer Clara Moreno, who is the daughter of the famous Brazilian singer/songwriter/guitarist Joyce Moreno and composer Nelson Angelo.

Stream “Nascimento (Rebirth) – Scene 2”

The 2-cd compilation will be out on June 28. Many of the 33 original recordings couple legendary musicians from Brazil with indie artists. As Aloe said, “When I listen to the music I go straight there. It takes me straight to Brazil, and you can feel the warm breeze. You feel warm and satisfied. You feel like you got something.”
