From KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez:
I have always admired a DJ that can change things up every now and then throughout his/her career.
If there was ever one that came to mind right off the bat, it would have to be Cut Chemist.
Through the years, we have seen him in various stages — whether working with Unity Committee or Jurassic 5 as co producer/DJ or creating musical collages with his “Lesson 6: The Lecture“, or simply working with LA Latin funk band Ozomatli, there seems to be no ground left untouched by Cut Chemist.
Cut is simply every DJ’s favorite DJ.
You truly never know which direction he might take during his sets. I remember opening for him last year at KCRW’s Masquerade Ball and trying to be conscious of working my set into his, but not really knowing where he might kick things off. And that is the very essence of why I enjoy his sets. No signature sound but always signature skill and precision.
Check out a track that definitely shows a new direction, it’s the dub mix of “Outro”:
Outro (Dub)-1 Evren Master (for KCRW Music Blog) by KCRW
