First Fridays is an incredible monthly music series after hours at the Natural History Museum and KCRW is thrilled to be presenting it in 2010! It starts THIS Friday, January 8 with a double bill straight from KCRW’s playlists —Atlas Sound and Tune-Yards.

MBE Host Jason Bentley has a notable history with the Museum’s music programming, staging a legendary dance party with Fatboy Slim in 2004. I was there that night and, let me tell you, dancing your bum off while surrounded by taxidermied animals behind glass might be one of the strangest and coolest venue experiences I’ve ever had. Here are Jason’s thoughts on the first night of the series:

“I’m so excited to enjoy the dreamy psychedelic pop of Atlas Sound in the grand halls of the Museum, not to mention the chance to see Tune-Yards crooning my personal fave “The Lions” against an actual diorama of lions on the plains of Africa! You don’t experience that everyday.”

The First Fridays series is free with a ticket for Museum admission. Tickets can be purchased in advance via Ticket Web for just $9 each.

The February line up also features KCRW-supported artists Yeasayer, whose sophomore album “Odd Blood” is already creating a buzz, and excellent local band Warpaint, who recently signed to Rough Trade and will be releasing their debut shortly.
