KCRW Presents: Spooky shows

Written by

Hey goblins and ghouls, we’ve got some great KCRW Presents shows on the calendar for the rest of spooky Rocktober.

Singer-songwriter and artist, Devendra Banhart, stopped by our studio for a short and sweet live session. He performed tracks from his latest release, Ma. Check out his exclusive bonus performance of his track “October 12” and a conversation with Raul Campos, where they talked about the album, turmoil in his former home of Venezuela, and more. Devendra will be playing at the Theatre at Ace Hotel on Thursday, October 24.

If you’re looking for Halloween plans, we’ve got two shows that should be on your radar, both on Halloween night. First option, you can make the trip out to Joshua Tree to rock out with LA natives, Cherry Glazerr, at Pappy and Harriet’s. They just released the video for their latest track featuring Portugal, The Man “Call Me.”

Or, you can shake your hips with La Chamba at the historic Paramount in Boyle Heights on Thursday, October 31st. La Chamba describes their sound as “Chicha Angelina,” a fusion of Peruvian chicha music with a psychedelic feel and influences of growing up in east and south LA. Check out their performance of “La Danza Del Pacurro” at the Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park a few years back.

Also, heads up for next month! Omar Apollo is coming to the Fonda on Tuesday, November 6. After the release of his latest EP release Friends, he announced the Speed of Sound Tour with two stops at the Fonda on November 5th and 6th. The first generation Mexican-American singer from Indiana has a unique blend of R&B, funk, and pop that’s sure to get you groovin’.

Here’s your two week round up of shows!

Friday, October 18: J.S. Ondara at the Troubadour
Thursday, October 24: Devendra Banhart at The Theatre at The Ace
