Everyone at KCRW has a massive crush on Kimbra right now. What’s not to like? The 22-year-old singer from New Zealand is charming, beautiful, smart, has an incredible voice and – best of all – absolutely OWNS the stage.
When we say this is the “real deal”, THIS is what we’re talking about. Her confidence comes from hard work, in fact she wrote the track “Settle Down”, a KCRW favorite, while still in her teens.
For her solo debut on Morning Becomes Eclectic, she played a super funky new song “Come Into My Head” that is not on her new CD “Vows”, as well as a cover of Nina Simone’s “Plain Gold Ring”. Kimbra also talked to Jason about the runaway success of Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know” and the humble beginnings of how that song was recorded.
