Laura Marling Live on KCRW – “Rambling Man”

As Jason Bentley mentioned in the very beginning of his interview with 20-year-old Laura Marling, her husky voice and virtuosic guitar playing belies her age.  The U.K. folk singer was recently nominated for a Mercury Music Prize (a coveted Album of the Year award in Britain) for her new CD “I Speak Because I Can.”  It’s her second nomination, which is pretty impressive. Laura commands attention in a way few singer songwriters can. It’s hard for me to describe exactly what makes her so special, but when you hear her music, you know she is. Particularly on the beautiful and spellbinding “Rambling Man

She played the El Rey earlier this week and apparently many of the fans in attendance knew every word to her songs. She also has some famous fans, including Jack White. She visited his Nashville studio earlier this year to record a couple covers for his Third Man Records label. Keep an eye out for those and check out her full session here.
