There have been a lot of Gil Scott Heron tributes since his passing, but none like the one KCRW DJ Tom Schnabel put together.
The 30-minute show includes classic and rare tracks and interview segments from 1980 and 1983, not heard since they were originally broadcast on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Tom, KCRW’s first Music Director, brought in the interview excerpts on cassette to create this special tribute.
You can find it in the archives alongside tributes from KCRW DJs Jeremy Sole and Mathieu Schreyer.

Jeremy had the honor of deejaying at Gil’s last LA performance, a show at the El Rey. This photo was taken by Theo Jemison. His tribute includes 3 hours of GSH originals, collaborations, remixes, interviews, poems, and music made in tribute to Gil from around the world.
