Looped: Different Fur Recording Studios

Written by

Different Fur Studios opened its doors in San Francisco’s Mission District in 1968. It’s the spot where Herbie Hancock perfected his synth sounds and jazz great Bobby Hutcherson recorded works. Today, it’s a creative hub owned and operated by Patrick Brown. It’s also the recording home of one of my favorite albums of all time, Anything in Return by Toro Y Moi.

‘KCRW artists’ like Nick Waterhouse, The Black Lips, and How To Dress Well have also recorded in the famed studio. And, similar to its origins, Different Fur Studios continues to cultivate a local scene and enrich the community.

Let’s check it out.
