East LA favorites Los Lobos retuned to KCRW this morning for an excellent set of music from their new album “Tin Can Trust.” They’re 40 years into their career, and they are really rockin’!

The band paid tribute to a musician they love – Jerry Garcia, who passed away 15 years ago. The band played with the Grateful Dead in 1988, jamming together on “West L.A. Fadeaway,” and they included a cover of the song on their new album. For a Dead fan like myself, it was a highlight of today’s performance, as was their performance of “Burn It Down.” The track is getting heavy airplay here at the station and I never get sick of hearing it. Just an incredible song. Check it out below and hear/watch the full performance in our archives.

p.s.: Jason told me after the show that Los Lobos asked about a band they heard earlier on MBE who they really liked. Turns out it was Darker My Love, whose new album is really reminiscent of late ’60s era folk/psychedelia and the Grateful Dead. Interesting, isn’t it?
