Nikki & Rich caught my ear the first time Jason played it, many months ago. I was hooked on their song “December,” which includes a Solomon Burke sample that I love. Though they didn’t play it this morning, they treated us to a full set of soulful pop music with heavy influences from the girl groups of the ‘60s.

Nikki’s voice is an unbelievable instrument that she first trained singing gospel music. She even released a couple of contemporary Christian albums before hooking up with her collaborator Rich Skillz, a hip hop producer. The songwriting publishing on their debut album “Everything” is under “Darling Nikki” so clearly she’s not afraid to leave the church behind, though she had a few “throwing her arm up in the air” hallelujah moments while singing this morning.

Check out the full set here.
