Pan Caliente: Twanguero hooks you with 'Cumbia del Este'

You guys know my affinity for a solid cumbia, and if you don’t, now you do. It’s not even a guilty pleasure; it’s a fact that cumbias are lo maximo (the best).

Today, we premiere a sultry, chicha-esque cumbia courtesy of the jangly twang of guitarist Twanguero (see what I did there?). The track is an ode to a historic neighborhood in Los Angeles, and features a straight-ahead groove that hooks you immediately with a bouncy cumbia. Señores y señoras: Cumbia del Este.

El Twanguero is a Latin Grammy-winning songwriter/guitar bender, who has been internationally known as one of the best guitarists from Spain (which is saying A LOT). He’s been leaning towards cumbia and afro rhythms on his latest releases, but don’t be fooled Twanguero (aka Diego Garcia) can shift between American folk, flamenco & tango with an impeccable finger picking style.

The video is shot beautifully and showcases some of the iconic murals that exist in and around Boyle Heights, Whittier Blvd., and Cesar Chavez Avenue.

Chequenla.
