Quadron is a band that seemingly came out of nowhere and then slowly but surely appeared on every KCRW DJ’s playlist towards the end of 2009. I finally found out the story behind this “phenomenon” straight from DJ Anthony Valadez:

“Robert Wilson is a friend of mine from college and a long time KCRW supporter. He regularly shows up at my residencies with a CDR full of music he thinks I should hear. It is hit and miss – I’m a picky guy. But this one time it was possibly the best hit of all time.

I got home and loaded up the music and there was this band from Denmark. I read the band’s name “Quadron” and tuned in to my musical intuition (which is always wrong)  and thought “Possibly electro synth pop from Germany”. Wrong. So wrong.  It was the soundtrack to my dreams!

Every song moved me — the arrangement, the strings, the keys, the vocals.   I slipped Quadron’s song “Unpatience” into my KCRW sets and even into some DJ sets at the clubs early in the night and received lots of feedback on the band.  I was truly dumbfounded by the fact this album was not being fully supported, although it should be noted that the album was not domestically released in the states.

I began to do my research on this band and figured out a connection that made total sense – the man behind the production is Robin Hannibal.  Hannibal is also responsible for one of my favorite records a few years back  (Owusu & Hannibal – Ubiquity Records – 2006).

As it stands local indie heavyweight record label Plug Research — which has put out albums from Flying Lotus, Shafiq Husayn, Milosh, Mia Doi Todd and countless others — is now releasing the album with distribution. This was just announced today and Andrew Lojero of Plug Research credited me for introducing him to the band. ”

Keep an eye our for the official release!
