Rodrigo y Gabriela Cover Radiohead’s “Creep”

This week we aired a thrilling private concert from the Apogee Studio by two of the world’s premier guitarists, Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

The unlikely story of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s ascension into the worlds of pop music, classically trained musicians, and even world music start in Mexico City but swiftly travel to Dublin, Ireland where they found their first following.

The two found a common bond in the even more unlikely place of heavy metal which as Rodrigo described during their interview with KCRW’s Anthony Valadez, was due to the genre being a universal language in the world of music. There’s no mistaking it.

During their hour-long set the two breezed through old and new songs (and by breezed I don’t mean rushed through, I mean there was a figurative whoosh of air coming off their strings as they played) but finished the night with a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”, with the crowd singing along.

For fans of Rodrigo y Gabriela, it was a particular delight as even though they play to tens of thousands at a time, (I saw 18,000+ stand on their feet multiple times during their headlining of the Hollywood Bowl last summer) they don’t have other accompaniment and they rarely ever sing.

It’s a fantastic glimpse into the exceptional talents that are Rodrigo y Gabriela and adds another layer to these amazing artists.
