KCRW DJ Dan Wilcox will be spinning at the Opening Night party for the 2010 LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL tomorrow night (June 17) on the deck of LA Live and I asked him to give us a little preview of the festivities:

From Dan:

It’s gonna be a dance party, so I gotta throwdown the jamz… but before that, since the premiere film is “The Kids Are All Right.” I was thinking about doing a lil’ “kids” set: Vampire Weekend “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance”, Kim Wilde “Kids In America,” Gorillaz “Kids with Guns,” MGMT “Kids,” etc.

But I’m not sure it will even be noticed… this will be by 7th LA Film fest that I have deejayed at and I do know this: people are too busy looking around for famous people. Including myself!

Quick story: I’m usually unfazed by the celebrities, but I was spinning a porch party at LAFF a few years back and my wife ran up to me and said ‘don’t look now, but The RZA is standing right behind you and keeps checking out what you are doing.’ Now I tried to play it cool, but this guy is a hero of mine. I told her: ‘I’m going to play something that is going to prompt The RZA to come up and say something to me.’ Dug through my crates (pre-Serato) and pulled out something surefire: The New Birth “I Can Understand It.” Sure enough, I soon hear a loud “HEY DJ!!! I like it.”

I like it. Indeed.

Editor’s Note: Dan’s son Gordy already likes to rock!
