Songs to Celebrate Dads

Music to celebrate fathers and fatherhood this week on Rhythm Planet

Father’s Day is right around the corner so we celebrate dads with this week’s playlist. The first half features classic, funny, and moving songs about fathers and fatherhood with music by Horace Silver, Paul Simon, The Temptations, and more. I’ve included a humorous song by jazz singer Eddie Jefferson that I’ve always loved.

For part two of the playlist, we hear songs by musician fathers and their talented children. There’s Ravi Shankar and his daughters, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar, plus Ellis Marsalis and his sons Wyntonand Branford. From Brazil, we feature Joäo and Bebel Gilberto. Malian great Ali Farka Touré and his son Vieux Farka Touré make the playlist, and so do Cuban pianists Bebo Valdés and his son Chucho.

Hope you enjoy the songs, and happy Father’s Day to dads around the world from Rhythm Planet! Photo collage credits, clockwise from top left: aaandrea—5697702; August de Richelieu; ambroo—72571; Tatiana Syrikova; 孫 羚蘋
